Umbrellas bearing the smiling faces of children from areas hit by natural disasters around the world are opened in front of a statue of a robot cartoon character “Tetsujin28 (鉄人28号)” in Kobe, to wish for the reconstruction of northeastern Japan following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
“Tetsujin 28″ is a 1956 manga written and illustrated by Mitsuteru Yokoyama.After a 13-episode live TV series in 1960, the manga was later adapted into four anime TV series, the first in 1963. It was the first Japanese series to feature a giant robot.
